Feeling like you’re on a one-way street or just stuck in life?
You don’t know what to do next, and every bit of clarity is missing? I genuinely believe that when you’re mentally stuck, even small habit changes can make a big difference.
I know the feeling of not knowing what’s next—or even worse, wanting to change but not knowing where to start or what to do.
Small changes can lead to huge results of overcoming self-doubt, and I really recommend everyone embrace this mindset. In every aspect of our lives, this is applicable.
By implementing small daily habits, the risk of feeling overwhelmed is basically zero. Since you’re only making a small shift in your routine, it’s much more ‘doable’ during the day.
Also, think of the Ripple Effect: maybe drinking more water will make you feel better, which could lead to better eating habits and eventually working out.
Day by day, these small changes in your life can lead to overall positive shifts and meaningful action in the long run.
Understanding the Feeling of Being Stuck
Being stuck can have many roots, from fear of change and overwhelm to stress or perfectionism.
Another big factor is comparison on social media. Seeing everyone else’s lives can lead to self-doubt, and then you don’t start because it’s not perfect. It’s an endless downward spiral.
To free yourself from feeling stuck, it often requires taking small steps toward change. Big changes rarely help because you’re likely to fall back into your old patterns.
The Power of Micro Habits
Maybe you wonder why micro habits make a difference, since they seem insignificant. But the key to micro habits lies in consistency—and consistency compounds into real change and results. Your mental barriers are much lower when it’s just a small shift.
Have you ever planned a big change and, in the end, didn’t do anything? That’s because your mental barrier said “no,” and you stayed stuck in your comfort zone.
Now, imagine making a 1% improvement every single day—where could you be in a year? In Germany, there’s a wonderful phrase: “Kleinvieh macht auch Mist,” which means “Small animals still produce manure.” And well, it’s true, isn’t it?
So why aren’t you taking small habits and turning them into something much bigger?
Nine Small Daily Habits to Overcome Feeling Stuck
It’s always better to start slow and develop good habits at your own pace.
I’ve got 9 tiny habits that can transform your whole life—but always remember, it’s the small daily victories that lead to the big picture.
Habit 1: Morning Journaling
I heard from so many different sources that morning journaling is beneficial. I never really believed it would help, but since my goal is to step out of my comfort zone, I gave it a try.
And let me tell you: it’s life-changing.
Writing something every morning—whether it’s my affirmations or daily goals—sets me in the right mood from the start.
Connecting with yourself in the morning makes it so much easier to power through your daily tasks and activities.
Habit 2: Practice Gratitude
To focus on positivity, I highly recommend practicing gratitude. Appreciating the little things in your life will instantly lift your mood.
I actually have a gratitude group chat with my best friend—completely separate from our usual daily conversations. It’s just for sharing what we’re grateful for each day, and nothing more.
First, it helps you reflect on your day in a positive way. Second, it allows you to celebrate and uplift someone you love by recognizing the good in their life too.
Habit 3: Set Three Daily Goals
Have you ever been at work and just didn’t feel productive? There are many different reasons why this can happen—too much on your to-do list, procrastination, constant Teams messages, or lots of chitchat with co-workers.
And let me tell you, I have days like that too.
Before you start your day, try prioritizing three tasks you need to finish. It really doesn’t take much time, but it can make a huge difference.
Habit 4: Learn a New Word Daily
Have you ever wished to start learning a new language? Why begin with a big goal like, “I want to become fluent in a language I don’t even know yet”? How about taking a simpler approach—just learning one word a day?
I think it’s a great way to keep your mind engaged while also encouraging continuous learning. I’ve said so many times that I want to learn a third language, but I was never really motivated. Then I started listening to one podcast episode in French each day, and it makes me feel so aligned and motivated by simply taking that small step.
Habit 5: Five-Minute Daily Stretching
Not only should you keep your mind active, but also your body. I notice how stiff I get when I don’t move enough—especially in my shoulders and neck from sitting all day.
To overcome these struggles, try starting with just 5 minutes of stretching each day. It’s easy to fit in between meetings or while grabbing a fresh coffee. Every bit of movement is better for your body than none at all.
Habit 6: Digital Detox Before Bed
Actually, one of my biggest pieces of advice: put your phone away at least 1 hour before sleep. Your sleep is so important for your body—why ruin something so precious with a damn phone?
Reducing mental stimulation helps your body shift into relaxation mode, making it easier to fall asleep. Plus, reading messages and doomscrolling can spike your stress hormones, which is the last thing you need before bed.
Enjoy your real downtime for yourself. No one needs your attention in the late evening.
Habit 7: Engage in Mindfulness or Meditation
One big thing for me was embracing my self-awareness. It has helped me in so many different aspects of life.
Starting with just 5 minutes of meditation or breathwork can put your mind in a whole different state. My experience is that sticking with the habit is key to seeing results. It took me more than six months to notice the differences and see the positive effects.
Habit 8: Connect with Nature Daily
This is also a game changer when it comes to daily stretching. Going outside for even a 10-minute walk helps you gain new perspectives.
For me, it’s a must to go outside during lunchtime. Whether I’ve had tough meetings, feel unproductive at work, or just overate at lunch, a short walk is a miracle. Your mind will shift, and suddenly, everything might not seem so bad.
Habit 9: Evening Reflection
Reflection at the end of the day will help you understand yourself better and set higher standards for your self-improvement. It’s important to assess where you’re at, what you’ve done, and how to avoid making the same mistakes—that’s the growth mindset.
And yes, not everything in life is about growth and getting better, but understanding yourself and your feelings will set the foundation for success in relationships, work, and your overall well-being.
Implementing These Habits into Your Routine
I know it’s a lot to change. Trust me, I’m not doing everything perfectly either. How could I?
It’s overwhelming to change everything at once. To create sustainable change, start by implementing one or two new habits here and there. Over time, you’ll begin to feel bigger changes. And that’s what we’re aiming for—small changes with big impacts. Over time, the positive shifts will affect your mood and overall well-being. It’s beautiful, trust me. I did it, and now, after 5 months, I feel so different from before.
